Aviation Museum - 9th November 2014

18-Dec-14

The Corvette Club of South Australia had the privilege of being invited to the South Australian Aviation Museum on their "Family Fun Day" 9th November. We met at Todd St. in the morning and had a record for the shortest distance travelled ever for a club run (1/2 kilometre) to the Museum. We had 15 Corvettes a Mustang, a TransAm and a Chev Blazer for a excellent Show and Shine display for the public to view. An entertaining day was enjoyed by all. Barossa Helicopters doing their joy fights around the Port Adelaide area. Very impressive live Engine runs and model jet plane runs during the day, with many ear plugs needed as the big Rolls Royce Merlin and Rotary engines were fired up. Meandering around the museum's many aircraft and displays, we were able to sit in many of the Cockpits including the F1-11. Believe it or not the F1-11 is even harder than a Corvette to get in and out of, felt just like a Corvette on Steroids, 2 seater, left hand drive. Navigator and weapon operator sits on the right hand side. Got to get me one of these. lol The Military were also on show with a live Cannon firing throughout the day, luckily for us they were aiming at the helicopters and not at our cars. Think the Cannon fire was only using blanks, the helicopters survived OK. Also had train rides to the Railway museum for those who wanted a change of pace to check out some of the old trains from years gone by. While some walked to the nearby Hotel for lunch the SAAM served us well with sausage sizzle and drinks during the day. Tight security was maintained during the event by Star Wars Darth Vader and Stormtroopers, we were in safe hands, may the force be with us. It was an amazing good day out with perfect weather, the sun shining, not too hot and around 1500 public attending for the day. Even had a Bike race around the streets of Port Adelaide just to top things off. Spared no expense. Special thanks must go to John Roberts, Nigel Daw, Paul Daw and all volunteers of the SAAM for hosting such a well organised event, and making us feel so very welcome. A big Thank You on behalf of the Corvette Club of South Australia for inviting us along.
