BLING'S MYSTERY TOUR

Only thing that was not a mystery was the place & time to start, Bolivar at 10:00am. We had 12 vettes & 3 cars (that mysteriously did not look like corvettes) meet ready for the run. Then we get a phone call from Jeff, that his fuel cap key mysteriously would not unlock the fuel cap, so they were running late, so he was given info on short cut to 1st stop. This sorted, we all headed off in some sunshine but with dark clouds looming. First mystery turn taking us down to Virginia, rain starts, stop & timed Steve who had his top down; out of car, roof up, locked in place & back in car in under 10 seconds. Good going, because then it dumped. My parting words were "as you do not know where you are going, keep the car in front in view at all times" .Well they followed the spray trail because you were not going to see the car in front. Anyway down through Virginia, Two Wells, Mallala, Balaklava & then on into Pt Wakefield where Jeff & Jenny caught up to us. Comfort stop, food, coffee & yes! It also gave people who not been on a run for a while, time to catch up; Gerry & Lyndal, Cathy McPhee, & Kerry Welsh. This is the main reason for the (gossip stop). OK another mystery phone call. Greg; this time wanting to know the destination so he & Chrissy could meet up for lunch. Info quietly divulged, the question was asked, any ideas where we were going? A few answers all wrong but Gerry did say no point going to the Lochiel pub as that had burnt down, but as I said, "they were doing cheap BBQ spare ribs." Onwards out of Pt Wakefield towards Lochiel, turning left just before the town & across the plains up to Blyth, but no not here, Clare, no, down through Sevenhill, stopped there once but not again. OK, Auburn, must be there, no another left turn (starting to get hungry now) down through Saddleworth, slowed down just to tease, but kept going onto Marrabel. Here we stopped , but only at the stop sign, left turn onwards towards Allandale, again past the pub, (I could almost hear the comments), & into Kapunda . Now I'm thinking, I bet they're hoping we stop here, drove past the first pub, drove past the second pub, drove past the third pub, but only to the car park. But a dash was on & it was not necessarily for the bar. The only other mystery was where was Bob? He had rung to find out where we were going to be, but some of us had a good idea on that mystery? & it was because it was wet! The Sir John Franklin Hotel put on a good meal. I heard everybody enjoyed their food & the run through some good interesting countryside. We thank everyone who came& made it what it was. By the time I got home I had clocked up 381 interesting kms, so the Southerners would have topped the400 km mark. Bling |
